How it works
VKontakte serves its video through a player of its own, and that player has no save control anywhere — not on a wall post, not in Clips, not in the separate Video section. The link therefore has to go to an outside tool. We read both addresses that are currently alive at once: the older vk.com/video-123_456 form and the newer vkvideo.ru one. The platform moved its video to a domain of its own, the old links kept working, and both shapes end up in the same parser.
By our own numbers VKontakte is the busiest platform on the service: it brings more downloads than both YouTube domains put together, which among other things means it is the first thing we repair when something over there changes. What cannot be taken: clips inside closed groups, uploads limited to the author's friends, and video the author has already deleted. The tool does not work around privacy — it sees exactly what your link opens for anyone.

Questions and answers
Does a vkvideo.ru link work, or only vk.com?
Both domains work. VKontakte moved video onto the separate vkvideo.ru address, but the old vk.com/video… links never went away, and mobile m.vk.com is read too.
Can I save a VK Clip?
Yes. A Clip is ordinary video, only vertical and short; its link is taken apart exactly the way a link to a wall post is.
What about video inside a closed group?
No. If a post is visible only to members of a community or to the author's friends, the tool will not reach it: it follows your link as a visitor without your account.
Does 1080p survive?
Yes, when the source has it. VK stores several tracks — 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p — and we take the best one available instead of re-encoding it a second time.
How do I download a VK video on a phone?
The same way: open this page in a mobile browser, take the link out of the VK app through Share and Copy link, and press Download. On an iPhone the file lands in Files or in the gallery, depending on the browser.
Why is this slower than some other sites?
Because we hand over a real file rather than a link to a 360p preview. Long recordings — streams, lectures, films — are quicker through the Telegram bot, which holds up to 2 GB and can queue the job.
Can I pull just the sound out of a VK video?
No. We make a point of not turning somebody else's music into an audio file — that is what every court case in this niche has been built around.
